Posta merchants go on indefinite strike to protest heckling of its office bearers
The state government has launched the 'Durga Suraksha Squad' and established cyber helpdesks in every police station as part of new measures to strengthen women's safety and combat cybercrime. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the initiatives after a meeting with senior police officials at Nabanna. He stated that the government follows a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and directed police to take strict action against those who harass women in public places. He also said women's safety remains a top priority for the government.
Under the new measures, women's helpdesks will operate round the clock in 500 police stations with specially trained personnel. These helpdesks will provide assistance, counselling and support in cases of domestic violence. The Durga Suraksha Squad, comprising female police personnel on motorcycles, has begun patrolling to prevent harassment of women. Ten advanced motorcycles equipped with real-time audio-visual transmission systems have also been provided to the Basirhat, Bongaon and Barasat Presidency ranges.
The government has also expanded measures to address cybercrime by setting up cyber helpdesks in every police station across the state. Special initiatives have been introduced to prevent financial fraud involving cryptocurrency, while the 1930 helpline and the Sahayog portal are available for reporting cyber offences. The Chief Minister instructed police personnel to work fearlessly and in accordance with protocol while warning that strict action would be taken against anyone attacking police personnel during law and order duties.
